In video gaming a nerf is a change to a game that reduces the desirability or effectiveness of a particular game element. The term is also used as a verb for the act of making such a change. The opposite of nerf is buff (in one of that term's two usages).
In the world of zOMG!, developers make various adjustments to the game in attempts to balance out game play. While these changes may be viewed as best by the developers, they are met with mixed results from the players. Finding it disappointing if a certain aspect of the game was removed or adjusted to a point that its original setting is practically diminished.
An example of noticeable nerfing was to zOMG!'s original introduction, Stop the Train!, and by 2010 the areas known as Old Station and Waterworks had been revamped and are no longer a part of the game play. The said story is that developers wanted players to access Barton Town much faster. Another example was to the NPC Halloween Jack during the 2010 Halloween event.
