Move? Edit

thanks for the suggestion... I'll move them now, but I'll see if I can get the redirects deleted too. can you vote to delete them after I redirect them?

thanks! I did read the text about potential broken links, but at the moment there is no links to them though lol. There are only 2 months of updates at the moment and the "Game Updates" page doesn't' have them listed... I need to find a good way to display them. I really do like the way that the Guild Wars Wiki does it, but it involves making TONS of extra pages and I'm not a fan of it. Maybe I'll do it manually, though I still need a "Month by month" thing. And do you know if it's possible to display TOCs with a "side format"? What I mean is that the November 2008 page has a huge TOC and I wish it was more space efficient, though I don't know if what I'm asking is possible. Oh yeah and even though the redirects are made, I still am going to mark them for deletion. Useless redirects = instant delete IMO (I wish I had the power to make them instantly disappear, not wait for votes I won't get). Lying 05:29, 2 December 2008 (UTC)

lol first I'll link you the Guild Wars wiki, even if you don't click it: http://guildwars.wikia.com/wiki/Game_updates And I have no idea what transcluding is, but it sounds like that. What they do is make an update page... lets say 20081203 as a single page, then make a page for December and instead of linking that post or copy/pasting it, they embed it directly in. And I saw that side TOC, thanks! But that wasn't what I was looking for (that may work for the main Game Update page though). I think what I want to do is probably impossible (as is decreasing font size)... but it's like columns in Word. Not moving the TOC to a different location, but expanding it horizontally. Or those show/hide categories on wikipedia. I really wish wikis were more user-friendly at times. It took me like 20 minutes to just figure out how to make subcategories lol, but everything I read was kind vague or not helpful. Lying 06:46, 2 December 2008 (UTC)

Transcluding from a TOC? Is that even possible? I've been learning about transcluding but that doesn't seem to work... instead you get the WHOLE page. I've got the Game Updates page open and am trying to replicate the Guild Wars wiki lol, since they have a nice style, and I think I'd have it down if I could just get the things transcluded correctly. Don't tell me I'll have to make them each a separate page. Lying 06:15, 3 December 2008 (UTC)

I think you're misunderstanding me... I know the side isn't an "official" TOC but it acts like one so in my book, YES it it is a TOC lol. Anyways it was about transcluding for the most recent updates. They transclude from full pages... but is it possible to transclude just a little, but not the whole thing? I found some tags but either they did nothing or I used them wrong. What I mean is if I want to list only the last 3 November updates, not the whole thing... If not maybe I WILL make them all their own page, but is there any way to keep them from affecting the "official" page count... I guess I don't consider them that helpful so they shouldn't get a number like the rest lol. Lying 11:28, 3 December 2008 (UTC)

are you still reading these? since if you can't partially transclude, I'd like to start transcluding everything else like it's done at the Guild Wars wiki and get my redirects deleted and the whole thing just set up. And that stupid update has been pushed to monday too. DAMN! Lying 04:01, 4 December 2008 (UTC)

I saw that tag but I couldn't get it to work (that was one of the things I think I mentioned earlier)... how could I have only November 26th shown on the main page for example with it? Experimented but failed. And the reason I don't like having lots of pages is because I feel like it's fluff, just extra and not needed. But if I can't get the transcluding tags to work on the main page (so I don't have to manually copy/paste recent updates), then I might just give every update it's own update to simplify the process. See what I mean? Lying 05:52, 4 December 2008 (UTC)

lol it is inevitable? You can't transclude just part of a page? What if I only want November 26th? WHOEVER IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS, I'M GONNA FIND YOU AND GUT YOU TONIGHT. Anyways, if that's true (I don't think you've given me a straight answer lol), I will make those new pages ok, like the Game Updates/[year][month][day]. And then I'll assemble a small team so they mark for deletion all the other pages I've built up. So far it's only 3 pages I believe that are marked for deletion. Lying 07:29, 4 December 2008 (UTC)

I know I that I don't have to delete that page, but the 2008 October, 2008 November, and ZOMG Update History all still need to be axes. I'm pretty sure they're marked for deletion, but I'm not sure if they all are. And I need those votes. Well I'm off to create a bunch of more pages... ugh. Oh, by the way, I try to keep it as factual as possible, like editing out when Qixter says "Wink" or extra stuff lol. I mean just the meat is there. Lying 07:47, 4 December 2008 (UTC)

Did you know you can compress links? Edit

everything after forum/ till the /t can be removed... I just noticed that you fixed October 2008, but how did I let that slip by lol. Now it's even shorter! Too bad wikia can't autocorrect... for example:

http://www.gaiaonline.com/forum/announcements/zomg-is-here-official-info-post/t.44463677/ becomes http://www.gaiaonline.com/forum/t.44463677

http://www.gaiaonline.com/forum///t.44463677_1/#1 becomes http://www.gaiaonline.com/forum/t.44463677_1/#1

Just passing along the info! I wish there was a PM system in wikia, not the discussion tab.

TM link moved Edit

thanks for the tip. I renamed The Mumbler with (Gramster) after the end since you get the quest first.. or maybe I will make a landing page. I think I will do that instead soon. Lying 04:16, 22 January 2009 (UTC)

game updates Edit

that's an interesting way to do the game updates, but I don't think I like it lol. I mean it's fine on the main page but then it spills over into any other places it's posted as well. I think I may forget about it... it just seems too troublesome. Should have known that there is no way to differentiate brackets. Maybe I'll just make it an image lol. That would easily work.

think I can tweak it so that the table part only appears on the front page that's what I need to learn lol.

Invalid Time? HELP Edit

Take a look at Game_Updates/20090401... everything looks in order but I'm getting Invalid Time errors. Can you help me out? Everything looks right but I could be wrong, or is wikia just acting up/broken?

Oh nevermind... I was using month as a number rather than a NAME. fixed. Lying 05:28, 2 April 2009 (UTC)

Notice about Upcoming Page Template ChangesEdit

Hello! I'm part of the Community Support Team at Wikia, and I want to let you know about an upcoming change that will affect this wiki.

This wiki is using a feature called CreatePlates, which is old and buggy and is being phased out. It is scheduled for removal from this wiki next Tuesday, March 29, 2011. This change will not affect the appearance of the wiki or any of its content.

It will, however, affect the templating options members see when they create new pages.

To help you manage this transition, we've set up our more current templating tool, LayoutBuilder, to allow you to pre-build new layouts before CreatePlates is disabled. LayoutBuilder is slightly different than CreatePlates in that it lets you create highly structured page layouts that maintain their shape over time. If you'd like to see it fully in action, you can try it out on our test wiki, which allows anyone to create new templates. (Users will be able to access your new LayoutBuilder templates as soon as CreatePlates is turned off.)

Another thing you may want to adjust is your "Standard Template" page, which will be an additional option presented to users when they create new pages. Standard Template is different from LayoutBuilder templates-- it's just a content starting point for an otherwise normal, non-templated page. You can change the appearance of your Standard Template at MediaWiki:Newpagelayout.

You can also choose not to worry about this, and do nothing. That's fine, too. Members will still be able to create new pages in whatever style they want -- they just won't have templates to choose from.

Please be sure to let your community members know about this coming change. If you have any questions, you can get in touch with me here, on my talk page, or through Special:Contact. Thanks for maintaining such a wonderful wiki!
